Autumn

Questions:
How can you tell when it’s autumn outside?

Read Alouds:
I Know it’s Autumn by Eileen Spinelli
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
Fletcher and the Falling Leaves by Julia Rawlinson

Flannel Board:
Fall is Not Easy by Marty Kelley

Songs:
“Seasons” by Hap Palmer

Fingerplays:

Leaves on the Ground
When the leaves are on the ground
[point to ground]
Instead of on the trees,
[hold hands over head]
I like to make a pile of them
Way up to my knees.
[clasp knees]
I like to run and jump in them
[jump]
And kick them all around.
[kick]
I like the prickly feel of them
And the crickly, crackly sound.
[snap fingers]

Way Up High in the Apple Tree
Way up high in the apple tree,
Two little apples smiled at me.
[hold up two fists]
I shook the tree as hard as I could
[shake hands]
And down came the apples.
[hands in lap]
“Mmm,” were they good!
[pat tummy]

Autumn Leaves
Autumn leaves are floating down,
[flutter fingers down]
They make a carpet on the ground.
Then swish, the wind comes whistling by,
[swing arms to the side]
And sends them dancing in the sky.
                [flutter fingers up]

If I Were a Leaf
If I were a leaf...
I’d jump down from my tree,
                [jump]
I’d dance in the wind,
                [dance]
I’d fly in the breeze,
                [pretend to fly]
I’d change bright colors,
I’d spin in the air,
                [spin]
Then I’d land on the ground...
                [sit down]
I just don’t know where!
                [shrug shoulders]
